The week in a sentence
Dialga and Mega Dragonite bow out on Tuesday, Palkia and both Mega Charizards land on Wednesday, and Saturday is the Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf Max Battle Day.
1. Mega Charizard Y, from Wednesday
Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y are in Mega raids from Wednesday 21 October at 6am to Tuesday 27 October at 10pm, and Charizard can be shiny.
- Mega Charizard Y is the third best Fire attacker (Fire Spin / Blast Burn*, 21.33 DPS, 522.4 TDO). Only Mega Delphox and Mega Blaziken are better, and it’s an easy solo, comfortably inside the timer, so you don’t even need a group.
- Mega Charizard X is the weaker Mega: A-Tier Fire at 18.44 DPS. It’s soloable, but it’s a tight grind, so bring revives.
- Blast Burn* is a legacy move, so you need an Elite TM or an old Charizard to get it.
Matt's take: if you only have Energy for one, pick Mega Charizard Y.
2. Dynamax Sneasel on Max Monday
Max Monday is Monday 19 October, 6am to 9pm, with Dynamax Sneasel featured in Max Battles, more Power Spots, faster refresh and a guaranteed Rare Candy XL for winning in-person Max Battles. Sneasel keeps rotating through Max Battles to Sunday 25 October.
- Evolve it for Dynamax Weavile, the number one Ice Max attacker at 253 Max Move damage, just ahead of Glaceon at 249.
- Sneasel itself sits at 200, so evolve it before you spend Max Particles.
- Weavile is also the number four Dark Max attacker, at the same 253 Max Move damage. Better Dark Max attackers are Gigantamax Grimmsnarl, Dynamax Hydreigon and Dynamax Urshifu (Single Strike Style).
- In raids, Weavile is only B-Tier for Ice and Dark.
Matt's take: B-Tier in raids, top of the board in Max Battles. Worth building if you want a Max team for Dragon, Flying or Ground bosses.
3. Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf Max Battle Day
Saturday 24 October, 2pm to 5pm. The three lake legendaries debut in five-star Max Battles, regionally, with a shiny chance after winning:
- Uxie: Asia-Pacific
- Mesprit: Europe, Middle East, Africa and India
- Azelf: the Americas and Greenland
Bonuses include 8× Max Particles from Power Spots (collection limit raised to 1,600), Max Battles at every Power Spot, up to three Special Trades, and from 12am to 5pm, 2× Max Particles from exploring at a quarter of the usual distance. A US$4.99 ticket adds Timed Research (a Max Mushroom, 25,000 XP and 6,400 Max Particles) and 2× XP from Max Battles, on sale until 5pm on the day.
- Azelf is the real prize: second best Psychic Max attacker at 280 Max Move damage, against Alakazam at 281.
- Australia gets Uxie, and it’s a weak attacker at 168. But it has a huge Defence stat (270), so think of it as a tank, not an attacker.
- Mesprit sits in the middle at 223. Fine, but not essential.
Matt's take: it's a legendary Pokédex entry for everyone, so do at least one. The ticket is only worth it if you'll actually use the Max Mushroom and the Particles.
4. Morelull Spotlight Hour for Stardust
Thursday 22 October, 6pm to 7pm, with 2× Catch Stardust. This hour is about the Stardust, not the Pokémon.
- Morelull gives 500 Stardust per catch on a normal day, so 1,000 per catch with the 2× bonus.
- Weather boosted in Sunny or Cloudy, that’s 1,250 per catch.
- Add a Star Piece on top and it’s 1,875 per catch.
- Catch 6 a minute and that’s 675,000 Stardust in one hour.
- Morelull is a little harder to catch, so use either of Kyurem’s adventure effects to make it easier.
Matt's take: Shiinotic is no use in raids, so this is purely a Stardust grind.
Shadow Landorus, every day
Shadow Landorus (Incarnate Forme) is in five-star Shadow raids every day until Tuesday 3 November at 10pm, and it can be shiny. It’s S-Tier and one of the best Ground attackers you can get right now, top six for Ground (Mud Shot / Earth Power, 17.54 DPS). It’s not a solo, so bring at least two mates; need raid buddies? Matt’s community is friendly and always willing to help. The solo numbers assume no Purified Gems, so the real fight is a bit easier. The doubled Remote Raid limit on the weekend (below) is a good chance to clear it remotely.
Last chance: Dialga and Mega Dragonite
Both leave raids on Tuesday 20 October at 10pm.
- Mega Dragonite is the third best Dragon attacker in the game (Dragon Tail / Outrage+, 23.10 DPS, 752.1 TDO). The Thunder Punch version is a solo, the Outrage+ version needs a mate. Last chance for Mega Energy before it rotates out.
- Dialga is still a solid Steel attacker, top 15. A couple more raids is fine if you have spare passes, but it’s not a must, since Dialga comes back often.
Palkia and Palkia Raid Hour
Palkia is in five-star raids from Wednesday 21 October at 6am to Tuesday 27 October at 10pm, and it can be shiny. It’s A-Tier Dragon: decent, but not top shelf. Draco Meteor Palkia is the hard one and needs three trainers; Aqua Tail Palkia is a duo.
Palkia Raid Hour is Wednesday 21 October, 6pm to 7pm, the best hour of the week to hunt a shiny Palkia, with Rare Candy XL for completing in-person raids all day Wednesday. Get a group together before 6pm, since it’s a duo at minimum.
Matt's take: raid Palkia for the shiny, not because your Dragon team needs it.
Minior debuts
Minior Showers (Orionids 2026) run from Monday 19 October at 5pm to Saturday 24 October at 11:59pm. Minior makes its Pokémon GO debut in its Meteor Form, with boosted spawns every evening from 5pm to 9pm and increased Stardust for catching it.
- In battle it starts in Meteor Form, with higher Defence and lower Attack.
- Once it drops below 50% health, it changes to its exposed core form, with higher Attack and lower Defence. The core is where its colour shows.
- For now it only changes form when battling Team GO Rocket or team leaders.
- Seven core colours exist, and which one debuts this shower hasn’t been announced. Five more showers are coming this year and next, so more colours are on the way.
It’s a new Pokédex entry, so go out between 5pm and 9pm one night, but it’s no raid attacker: collect it, don’t power it up.
Also this week
- Fall Marathon: Buddy Trek ends Monday 19 October at 8pm. Last chance to finish the 42 km Timed Research for Marathon Visor Pikachu. GO Pass rewards can be claimed until Wednesday 21 October at 8pm.
- Friendship Friday (23 October): up to two extra Special Trades for in-person trades, a higher Lucky Trade chance, 20% less Stardust and two guaranteed Candy XL (level 31+).
- Remote Raid limit doubles from 10 to 20, which in Brisbane time is Saturday 10am to Sunday 1pm. A good window for Palkia and Shadow Landorus.
- Scenic Sunday (25 October): more wild spawns and spawns on Routes, and reduced Buddy Candy distance on Routes. A good day to walk a Route.
- Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration ends Tuesday 20 October at 10pm, and is US Target, Best Buy and GameStop stores only, so skip it if you’re outside the US.
- City Safari: Boston (Rescheduled) is Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 6pm local time, for ticket holders only. No new tickets are on sale.
- Pokémon Night Out Twitch Drops: watch twitch.tv/pokemon for 30 minutes from 12:30pm Sunday Brisbane time for a code that unlocks a baseball jersey avatar item.
What you can skip
- Palkia, unless you want the shiny. It’s only A-Tier Dragon, and Mega Dragonite (until Tuesday) is a far better use of a raid pass.
- Mega Charizard X. It’s the weaker Mega and a tighter solo, so spend the Energy on Y instead.
- The Max Battle Day ticket, unless you’ll use the Max Mushroom. The free bonuses (8× Particles, extra Power Spots) are the main event.
