Stardust each Trainer pays. Forever Friends trades cost the same as Best Friends. Trade events can lower these for a while.

    The rules

    Before you trade

    Trainer level 10 or higher

Both of you need to be at least level 10.

    Within 100 metres

Trades are in person, so stand near each other. Some events stretch the distance.

    One Special Trade a day

Shiny, legendary and new Pokédex trades are Special Trades, and you get one a day.

    Some Pokémon can't be traded

Most Mythicals, Pokémon that have already been traded once, and Pokémon defending a gym.

What a trade does to IVs

IVs are re-rolled in every trade. Higher friendship raises the lowest IVs you can get.

    Trade smarter

Save Special Trades for Best Friends

A shiny legendary that's new to a friend costs 1,000,000 Stardust at Good Friends and 40,000 at Best. Waiting a few months saves you 960,000.

    Trade your oldest Pokémon

Pokémon caught years ago have much better odds of turning Lucky. A Lucky Pokémon costs half the Stardust to power up and gets IVs of at least 12/12/12.

    Wait for trade events

Events often cut trade Stardust or give extra Special Trades. Save your big trades for those.

    Fill each other's Pokédex

Regional Pokémon are the best trades between friends in different countries, and they're cheap at Ultra and Best.
