What you need
The magnifying glass at the top of your Pokémon list. A few search terms do most of the work for you.
Tags mark the Pokémon you want to keep, so you never transfer them by accident.
Optional. A clear-out is free, and levelling up adds space too.
Storage sizes in 2026
Both have a starting size, shop upgrades and a bonus from levelling up.
| You start with | Each upgrade | Most you can buy | Extra from levelling | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pokémon | 300 | +50 for 200 PokéCoins | 12,650 | +350 |
| Items | 350 | +50 for 200 PokéCoins | 12,000 | +750 |
The levelling rewards can take you past the shop limit, so at level 80 the most you can have is 13,000 Pokémon and 12,750 items. The limits went up most recently in July 2026.
- Pokémon space comes at levels 20, 40, 55, 60, 75, 78 and 80.
- Item space comes every five levels or so from level 10 to 80, with the biggest jumps at 30 and 80.
- If you were already a high level, you got these rewards automatically when the level rework arrived in October 2025.
How to clear out your Pokémon
- Tag what you want to keep
Long-press a Pokémon to multi-select, then tag them. Shinies, hundos, your best attackers and anything you're saving for a trade or a Community Day move.
- Search for transfer candidates
Paste this into the search bar. It finds low-IV Pokémon that aren't shiny, lucky, legendary, costumed, tagged, favourited, traded or Shadow:
0*,1*,2*&!shiny&!lucky&!legendary&!mythical&!costume&!#&!favorite&!traded&!shadow&!dynamax&!backgroundCheck before you transferScroll through the results first. A search can't know which Pokémon you're saving to evolve, so give it a quick look.
- Transfer them in bulk
Long-press the first one, tap Select all or tap each one, then Transfer. Every transfer gives you Candy, and a chance at Candy XL if you're trainer level 31 or higher.
- Keep your oldest Pokémon
Pokémon you caught years ago have much better odds of turning Lucky in a trade. Add
!year2016&!year2017to the search to leave them out, and save them for trades with friends.
Search terms worth knowing
Type these into the search bar on your Pokémon list.

& means and, , means or, and ! means not. So shadow&4* finds Shadow hundos, and shiny, lucky finds anything shiny or lucky.
Add a dash for a range. cp-500 is CP 500 or less, and 1-151 is the original 151 by Pokédex number.
What takes up item space
Poké Balls, potions, revives, berries, Raid Passes, TMs, Rare Candy, Purified Gems and Shadow Shards.
Stardust, Candy and Candy XL, Mega Energy, Max Particles, gifts and stickers. They have their own limits instead.
| Item | Most you can hold |
|---|---|
Purified Gems | 10 |
Max Particles | 1,500 (collect up to 800 a day) |
Link Charges | 600 |
| Stickers | 25 of each |
Keep enough Max Potions and Max Revives for a raid session and delete the weaker ones first. Tap the bin icon next to any item in your bag.
Eggs, gifts and postcards
The bonus slots hold Strange Eggs from Rocket Leaders and Adventure Sync rewards. The free Daily Adventure Egg from level 15 has its own incubator and doesn't take a slot.
Levelling adds gift space at levels 43, 53, 63 and 73. You can open 30 gifts a day.
Upgrades cost 100 PokéCoins for 50 more, and levelling up adds up to 250.
Sending Pokémon to Pokémon HOME
The GO Transporter sends up to 25 Pokémon at a time to Pokémon HOME. It uses Transporter energy, which recharges over time, and Legendaries and Mythicals cost much more.
Pokémon can't come back to Pokémon GO from HOME, and Shadow, Mega, Gigantamax and costumed Pokémon can't be sent.
Simple strategies that work
One tag for everything you want to keep makes every clear-out safe and quick.
Sort by Recent after a Community Day and transfer what you don't need while the results are all in one place.
Transferring Pokémon above level 31 gives much better odds of Candy XL.
Levelling now adds storage for free, so you may not need to spend PokéCoins at all.
