Dragon and Ice types do the most damage. The top 10 on Pokémon GO Hub’s Altered Forme Giratina counters list:

- Black Kyurem (Dragon Tail and Freeze Shock)
- Mega Garchomp (Dragon Tail and Breaking Swipe)
- Shadow Haxorus (Dragon Tail and Breaking Swipe*)
- White Kyurem (Dragon Breath and Ice Burn)
- Shadow Palkia (Dragon Tail and Draco Meteor)
- Shadow Darkrai (Snarl and Foul Play)
- Shadow Garchomp (Dragon Tail and Breaking Swipe)
- Dawn Wings Necrozma (Psycho Cut and Moongeist Beam)
For Origin Forme Giratina the list is almost the same, with Mega Mewtwo Y and Mega Dragonite also in the top 10. Dark types like Shadow Darkrai are a good pick if you want to faint less, since Giratina’s Dragon moves don’t hit them super effectively.
Can you solo Giratina?
No. Both formes need more than one trainer, even with maxed level 50 attackers, though it’s close. Origin Forme Giratina is the slightly easier one. Bring one friend and it’s a comfortable duo.

Is Giratina worth building?
When I first covered Giratina, I said it wasn’t the best legendary but it looks great, shiny included. That still holds, but which forme matters. On Pokémon GO Hub:
- Origin Forme Giratina is the 18th best Ghost attacker with Shadow Claw and Shadow Force* (15.05 DPS).
- Altered Forme Giratina is 38th with the same moves (12.78 DPS), and much lower as a Dragon attacker.
Both formes are at their best with Shadow Force*, which needs an Elite Charged TM if yours doesn’t have it. It’s only a small step up from its other moves, though.
