Key dates
- Early access: Saturday 14 November, 10am local, only if you claimed Tier 1 rewards on GO Pass: Into the Wild. Those players also get GO Pass Deluxe: Dynamax Trails free.
- Main event: Monday 16 November 10am to Monday 23 November 8pm local.
- Spotlight Hour: Thursday 19 November, 6pm to 7pm.
- Eternamax Eternatus: Saturday 21 November, 11am to 2pm local.
- Remote Raid limit 30: Friday 20 November 1pm to Saturday 21 November 6pm Pacific time (GMT -8). That’s one global window, not local time.
- GO Pass: collect GO Points until Monday 23 November 8pm, and claim your rewards by Wednesday 25 November, 8pm local. Unclaimed rewards expire after that.
No new Pokémon debut. This is a return event: every Dynamax already released comes back, except the legendaries. The announcement says Dynamax, so don’t expect Gigantamax in the regular Max Battles. The new bit is a chance of a Special Background when you catch from a Max Battle, and the GO Pass Dynamax encounters come with it too.
Eternatus
- Poison and Dragon Legendary, from one encounter in the free GO Pass. Already caught one? You get 100 Eternatus Candy instead. You can only catch it once during the event.
- Hundo: 1898 CP from the GO Pass encounter, no weather boost.
- Max Battles: Dragon Tail / Dynamax Cannon*, 348 Max Move damage, the highest number on PokemonGO Hub’s whole Dynamax list. The next highest, Gigantamax Inteleon, sits at 329, and the next best Dragon, Dynamax Latios, is at 261.
- Raids: SS-Tier. With Poison Jab / Dynamax Cannon* it’s the number three Poison attacker (24.73 DPS, 760.84 TDO), behind Mega Victreebel and Mega Gengar. With Dragon Tail / Dynamax Cannon* it’s the number two Dragon attacker, behind only Mega Rayquaza.
- It needs much more Candy and Candy XL than normal to power up, which is what Saturday’s Eternamax fight is for.
Matt's takeOne Pokémon, two jobs. The catch is candy, not the encounter.
Dynamax Cannon Adventure Effect
- Costs 5,000 Stardust and 30 Eternatus Candy, and lasts 10 minutes, extendable in 10-minute blocks up to 2 hours.
- Boosts your Pokémon’s Max Moves by one level in Max Battles. Locked Max Moves go up to Level 1, and fully trained Level 3 moves go to Level 4.
- Doesn’t work on Zacian or Zamazenta, including Crowned forms.
- GO Pass rank 35 halves the cost to 2,500 Stardust and 15 Candy.
- Switch it on right before your Eternamax battles on Saturday.
Max Battles all week: the ones worth chasing
Every non-legendary Dynamax released so far may appear in Max Battles, with more Power Spots than usual and a chance of Max Particles after battles and from catching event Pokémon in the wild (not from Explorer Gadget or GO Plus + catches). Don’t battle everything. Fill the gaps in your team. Ranked on Max Move damage:
- Excadrill: number one Ground, Mud Shot / Max Quake, 249. Drilbur hundo 786.
- Rhyperior: number one Rock and number two Ground (behind Excadrill), 237. Rhyhorn hundo 943.
- Metagross: number two Steel, Bullet Punch / Max Steelspike, 251, behind only Crowned Sword Zacian. Beldum hundo 558.
- Alakazam: number one Psychic, Psycho Cut / Max Mindstorm, 264. Abra hundo 767.
- Weavile: number one Ice, Ice Shard / Max Hailstorm, 238. Sneasel hundo 1172.
- Glaceon: number two Ice, Frost Breath / Max Hailstorm, 234, behind Dynamax Weavile. Eevee hundo 612.
- Hydreigon: number two Dark (behind Gigantamax Grimmsnarl) and number three Dragon (behind Eternatus and Dynamax Latios), 250. Deino hundo 606.
- Darmanitan: number three Fire, Fire Fang / Max Flare, 257, behind Gigantamax Cinderace and Gigantamax Charizard. Darumaka hundo 823.
- Gallade: number four Fighting, Low Kick / Max Knuckle, 233, behind Gigantamax Machamp and both Dynamax Urshifu. Ralts hundo 308.
All hundos are from Max Battles, with no weather boost.
Matt's takePrioritise Excadrill, Alakazam, Weavile and Metagross. Those four cover all of Eternamax Eternatus's weaknesses except Dragon, and Eternatus itself covers Dragon.
Saturday 21 November: Eternamax Eternatus
- 11am to 2pm local, taking over the majority of Power Spots worldwide. You can’t catch it, but every win gives a large amount of Eternatus Candy and Candy XL.
- During those three hours: Power Spots refresh more often, the Max Particle cap rises to 2,400, and Power Spots give 8x Max Particles, so stock up between battles.
- Weak to Ground, Ice, Psychic and Dragon. Best picks: Excadrill (249) and Rhyperior (237) for Ground, Alakazam (264) for Psychic, Weavile (238) and Glaceon (234) for Ice, and Eternatus (348) then Hydreigon (250) for Dragon.
- Tank: Dynamax Metagross. Steel resists both Poison and Dragon, it has 228 Defence and 190 HP, high for a Dynamax, and it hits super effective with Max Mindstorm too. Crowned Shield Zamazenta if you’ve got one.
- Bring a full group. This is the biggest Max Battle in the game.
- Use the Dynamax Cannon effect before you start.
Spotlight Hour, wild spawns and research
- Spotlight Hour, Thursday 19 November, 6pm to 7pm: Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble, all shiny eligible, with 2x Catch Candy. The candy powers up your Dynamax and Gigantamax starters too: Dynamax Inteleon is number three Water (256), Dynamax Rillaboom number three Grass (235) and Dynamax Cinderace number seven Fire (234). No Dynamax or Gigantamax starters? You can skip this one.
- Wild spawns: event-themed Pokémon, including any non-legendary that has debuted in Max Battles. These are regular wild spawns, not Dynamax, but they’re extra candy for the families you’re building and a chance of Max Particles.
- Field Research: event-themed tasks reward Stardust, Eternatus Candy and encounters. Do every task you get.
GO Pass: Dynamax Trails
- Free for everyone from Monday 16 November, 10am local. The free track has Dynamax encounters with the Special Background, the Eternatus encounter (or 100 Candy), Eternatus Candy and Candy XL, Rare Candy, Stardust and stickers.
- Deluxe, US$4.99: extra Special Background Dynamax encounters, more Eternatus Candy and Candy XL, Silver Pinap Berries, Rare Candy XL and stickers. Free if you claimed Tier 1 on Into the Wild. You can upgrade any time and still claim earlier ranks.
- Web Store Deluxe gift: 10 Ultra Balls, 5 Max Revives, 1 Premium Battle Pass and 5 Max Potions. It can only be bought once and activates as soon as the pass begins.
- Milestones: rank 15 gives 2x Catch Stardust, rank 35 halves the Dynamax Cannon cost, and rank 55 gives extra Candy and Candy XL from Max Battles.
Matt's takeReach rank 55 before Saturday, so the extra Max Battle candy stacks with Eternamax's big drops. If you got the free Deluxe upgrade from Into the Wild, it's already yours. Otherwise US$4.99 is worth it if you'll use Eternatus in Max Battles, and skip it if you're not planning to power Eternatus up.
