Best Mega Pokémon in Pokémon GO: The Top 10 Megas Ranked
By Matt · Published · Updated Mega Mewtwo Y is the strongest Mega in Pokémon GO with Psycho Cut and Future Sight+, just ahead of Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Rayquaza. Mega Delphox and Mega Dragonite round out the top five.
These rankings come from Pokémon GO Hub’s Best Mega Pokémon list, which ranks every released Mega at level 40 against a neutral target. Each Mega is at its top Mega Level, so plus moves are included. Primals aren’t counted.
The top 10 Mega Pokémon
- Mega Mewtwo Y: Psycho Cut and Future Sight+
- Mega Mewtwo X: Psycho Cut and Dynamic Punch+
- Mega Rayquaza: Dragon Tail and Dragon Ascent
- Mega Delphox: Fire Spin and Mystical Fire+
- Mega Dragonite: Dragon Tail and Outrage+
- Mega Lucario: Force Palm* and Aura Sphere
- Mega Starmie: Psywave and Liquidation+
- Mega Blaziken: Fire Spin and Aura Sphere
- Mega Garchomp: Dragon Tail and Breaking Swipe
- Mega Staraptor: Sand Attack and Brave Bird+

Moves with an asterisk are legacy moves, so you’ll need an Elite TM or a past event to get them. Moves with a + are plus moves, which a Mega unlocks at its top Mega Level.
What’s changed since my video
When I first ranked the Megas, Mega Rayquaza was comfortably on top, followed by Mega Lucario, Mega Gengar, Mega Blaziken and Mega Charizard Y. Since then, Mega Mewtwo X and Y have arrived, and plus moves have given Megas like Mega Delphox, Mega Dragonite, Mega Starmie and Mega Staraptor a big boost. Mega Rayquaza is now third, and Mega Gengar and Mega Charizard Y have dropped out of the top 10.
Matt's takeBoth Mega Mewtwo are now the strongest Megas you can use, but they need their top Mega Level to get there. Only one Mega can be active at a time, so the best Mega for any raid is the strongest one of the type the boss is weak to.
Which Mega should you use?
- Psychic damage: Mega Mewtwo Y.
- Fighting damage: Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Lucario or Mega Blaziken.
- Dragon damage: Mega Rayquaza, then Mega Dragonite, Mega Garchomp and Mega Salamence.
- Fire damage: Mega Delphox, Mega Blaziken or Mega Charizard Y.
- Water damage: Mega Starmie or Mega Greninja.
- Flying damage: Mega Staraptor.

Is Mega Mewtwo X or Y better?
Mega Mewtwo Y is ahead overall with Future Sight+, but Mega Mewtwo X hits Fighting weaknesses with Dynamic Punch+, so it's the better pick against bosses weak to Fighting.
Is Mega Rayquaza still the best Mega?
It's still the best Dragon attacker, but overall it now sits third, behind both Mega Mewtwo once their plus moves are unlocked.
What are plus moves?
Charged attacks marked with a +, like Future Sight+. A Mega gets them at its top Mega Level, and they hit harder than the normal version of the move.
Are Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre counted?
No. This list is Mega Pokémon only, so Primals aren't included.
